memoir.
jeong’s parents met when his father was on a business trip in korea. after dating long distance for a couple years, his mother, ari, discovered she was pregnant. his father, nils, immediately encouraged her to move to america with him.months pass and ari’s due date comes. nils was on a business trip in sweden but immediately caught the next flight to america to come be there for the birth of his son. sadly, life had other plans. the plane hit turbulence during a bad storm and crashed somewhere in the north atlantic ocean.after being in labor for almost an entire day, ari finally received the news of her husbands untimely death. she blamed her son for his death and no longer wanted him. he was placed in the foster care system in hopes and good family would take the baby that never cried.after years of being in the foster system, jeong was adopted by a promising family. Wealthy, well-liked, with two kids already - a son and a daughter. little did they know, things would eventually go very wrong. . .the abuse began was he was young — only about 10 years of age. starting with only verbal and mental abuse but quickly escalating to physical. his father, robert, always made it very clear how unwanted he was and only gave in to his wife’s, marie, incessant begging.eventually his brother, sal, began getting abused for trying to stand up for jeong. so jeong learned very quickly to keep his mouth shut to not anger his father further. this selective muteness quickly creeped into his life outside of home. he hardly spoke to anyone ever, and when he finally did, he was teased for his soft spoken tone and sweet voice.years pass and at the age of 15, jeong’s mother commits suicide. she could no longer bear the abuse. his sister, mikayla — who looked just like their mother — began being sexually assaulted by their now alcoholic father.their high school eventually found out about all of the abuse and robert was put in prison. jeong and his adoptive siblings were then separated, the two going to their aunt and jeong back into the foster system.the abuse didn’t end there. it continued into his school years. he had been beaten, raped, and broken by one of his classmates. after he finally graduated high school, he moved far far away from his wicked home town that filled with so many vile memories.
